Deputy DPW Director

The Town of Falmouth seeks an experienced and highly motivated manager to serve as our next Deputy DPW Director. The successful candidate is a forward-thinking, resourceful, and collaborative leader who will assist the Public Works Director in managing and setting goals for a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, full-service department made up of nine divisions: Administration, Engineering, Facilities, Fleet Services, Highway (including Beach Maintenance), Parks, Waste Management, Wastewater, and Water. The department has 8 Division Heads and 100 highly skilled employees who perform a large portion of the Town’s work and maintenance in-house.

The Deputy DPW Director assists the Director in overseeing the daily operations of the department, provides project oversight for all divisions, and oversees the $400 million capital plan, which includes wastewater plant modifications, piping infrastructure, lift stations, proposed outfall pipe, water main replacements, new water source development, environmental remediation of a former landfill with the addition of three new athletic fields, bridge widening and replacement, roadway signal intersections at four locations, roadway reconstruction, and a multitude of other ongoing projects. This position also coordinates the preparation and administration of the department’s annual operating budget, oversees grant administration, develops or coordinates Requests for Proposals (RFPs), prepares and negotiates vendor contracts, and oversees the department’s procurement practices. Other functions include but are not limited to: planning, coordinating, managing, and administering the full range of activities involving solid waste management and serving as the Departmental Safety Officer.

The Public Works team has built a strong reputation within the community and works collaboratively with many Town departments, Boards, Committees, and staff to improve our roads, utility infrastructure, beaches, and recreational facilities.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil or environmental engineering preferred) and 6 to 8 years of progressively responsible experience in public works administration, including supervisory experience within public works; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Massachusetts Professional Engineer License preferred.

Applicants should have demonstrated solid waste management knowledge and experience and strong knowledge of OSHA/DLS safety regulations.

Expected Starting Salary Range: Step 1 ($117,707.20) – Step 7 ($143,852.80), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to advance along the 10-step pay scale.
