The Office of Culture and Engagement (OCE) provides a variety of services to the agency, supervisors, managers, and approximately 2200 agency employees. The Office supports and enhances the agency's vision to be the best public safety agency in the United States by offering consultation services and promoting a positive organizational culture. The Office also focuses on building long-term relationships of trust with communities across the state. The Community Engagement Liaison will be located in the Office of Culture and Engagement.
Duties
The objective of this position is to establish and maintain strong connections with local communities by listening to their concerns, increasing public awareness of agency procedures, contributing to crime prevention strategies, and supporting recruitment efforts in the assigned district.
Our new teammate will be able to:
- Initiate and sustain relationships within communities across their assigned district.
- Organize and prioritize objectives and unit work to manage multiple tasks and/or projects independently.
- Provide informed recommendations to supervisors and district leadership on community engagement priorities and improvement opportunities.
- Identify local issues and assist in developing responsive strategies in coordination with WSP leaders and their Unit Supervisor.
- Prepare monthly status reports for leadership.
- Participate in community events and meetings to build relationships and follow up with relevant stakeholders.
- Plan, manage, execute, and evaluate community engagement activities in alignment with the district’s strategic plan.
- Lead initiatives that promote broad community participation in outreach events.
- Support the development and refinement of procedures and activities for the Community Engagement Unit.
- Conduct focus groups and/or surveys to gather community feedback.
- Analyze data to assess program needs and draft action plans to address them.
- Track outreach and engagement efforts using designated tools.
- Act as a liaison between district personnel and the public.
- Represent WSP at community meetings and events.
- Identify outreach opportunities and support ongoing public engagement efforts.
- Recognize and communicate the unique needs and preferences of the populations served.
Telework
This is not a full-time telework position. The incumbent may be eligible to telework up to two days per week following the initial six-month training period.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- Must be willing and able to travel statewide in an agency-provided vehicle.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience (volunteer or paid) in a role which includes community engagement, as well as planning, and coordination/consultation with a variety of public and private agencies/organizations/levels of government.
