Job Summary:

 

OSU -Cascades in Bend is recruiting for a full time, 1.0 FTE , 12-month professional faculty Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement.

 

The OSU -Cascades Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement is a vital member of the university’s strategic imperative to meet the institution’s obligations identified in Prosperity Widely Shared. This position will increase knowledge about and access points to OSU -Cascades for high school and other alternate education students considering higher education and will play a key role in implementing both land grant obligations and PWS strategy by directly supporting the institution’s efforts to increase student enrollment to 2,200 by 2030.

 

The Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement plans and implements consistent and regular outreach activities to high schools and alternative access pre-college organizations in the tri-county area and beyond, to increase and improve pathways for students to attend OSU -Cascades. These activities may include developing events, programs and relationships with students and administrators at high schools in the region, Central Oregon Community College (COCC ) and across the state to support meeting enrollment goals and the institution’s commitment to and responsibilities as a land grant university. The Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement will provide senior leadership with strategic recommendations for enhancing program outreach based on data and feedback, proposing new initiatives or improvements to existing efforts with the goal of further supporting enrollment goals and community engagement at the high school and community college level. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer with dotted line reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, the Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement will ensure that efforts are directly aligned with broader institutional objectives and financial outcomes; the position will be held accountable for meeting performance metrics that are tied directly to the campus’s financial health. This position and its work is supplemental to the current departments of enrollment, recruitment and admissions, offering insight and data for use across all groups at OSU -Cascades seeking to meet enrollment benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

 

The Manager, Academic Outreach and Engagement supports enrollment growth goals by planning and implementing consistent outreach to high schools, COCC , and alternative access pre-college organizations in the tri-county area and beyond. The Academic Outreach Specialist looks for and supports events, programs and relationships that help establish OSU -Cascades as a clearly defined and well-known opportunity destination for high school, community college, and alternative education students in the region and across the state. This position represents the commitment of OSU -Cascades, a land grant university, to a collaborative and inclusive community in all interactions and duties performed, encouraging external communities to connect more consistently and continuously with the Cascades campus.

 

60% Program Management and Community-Engagement

 

• Be a primary force in advocating for and developing enrollment programs and approaches to improve OSU -Cascades visibility in the tri-county high schools, COCC , and beyond. Build relationships with high schools, COCC , alternative education and other local organizations, and students. to enhance the OSU -Cascades brand and community knowledge of it

• Serve as point of contact for high school administrators seeking information and access for students considering post-high school options

• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to collaboratively develop and implement pathways to support access and success for low-income, first generation or differently abled students

• Partner with academic leaders, faculty and career services across programs to develop and deliver academic engagement programming for high school, COCC , and alternative education students

• Develop and maintain a knowledge base about external developments, including reports, studies, conferences, and partner initiatives to support and inform the development of new approaches and initiatives for the OSU -Cascades matrixed team

• Seek out opportunities for building formal pathways of access for high school students, including career services introductions or funding opportunities between OSU -Cascades and the tri-county schools and beyond

• Establish processes and systems to track and evaluate high school engagement efforts, including relationships, long-term student and administrator tracking as needed, and pending opportunities with both organizations and their students

 

25% Campus Collaboration and Strategic Alignment

 

• Prepare monthly reports for designated OSU -Cascades leadership, with up-to-date information on relationship building and program development and maintenance with both local high school and COCC leadership and students. Engage with OSU -Cascades leadership for all-staff meetings, department projects, etc. to increase institutional knowledge of issues and themes prospective students and populations face in accessing OSU -Cascades opportunities.

• Gathers information and develops approaches that can be utilized across multiple departments at OSU -Cascades that are working to meet enrollment goals for the university, creating opportunity for students and educational facilities not utilizing more traditional access pathways.

• Collaborate with campus partners, including the finance, enrollment/admissions, academic, recruitment and marketing teams, to implement college access opportunities for high school and community college students and collaborators.

• Coordinates degree/program-specific communications for high school-facing and other learning organization events, both internally and externally, working with campus-based stakeholders as needed

• Works with faculty leadership to coordinate faculty participation at external and internal high school program events

• Communicates information about possible grant opportunities that may be identified in the course of outreach work, for pursuit by Cascades to increase enrollment opportunities for local high school and other learning facility students

• Outside the tri-county area, develop, support or lead virtual mentorship and college readiness opportunities between OSU -Cascades and high schools

 

10% Mentorship and Fiscal Management

 

• Supervise student ambassadors, interns, and/or outreach staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and ongoing evaluation.

• Manage program budgets in collaboration with Chief Business Officer and Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, track expenses, and contribute to grant proposal development.

• Ensure compliance with FERPA , IRB , OSU Youth Safety Guidelines, and other applicable policies.

 

5% Other duties as assigned

 

What You Will Need

 

• Bachelor’s degree in education, business, psychology, human resources or other related degree

• Previous experience in recruitment, outreach and/or admissions at the high school or secondary education level

• Demonstrated success in developing outreach and support programs for students, with a proven track record of working with first generation, Pell Grant-eligible and/or differently abled status prospective matriculants

• Previous experience and success building and maintaining positive relationships with community partners and/or organizations throughout the school districts, and/or within communities whose populations are seeking higher education opportunities for their populations.

• Proven experience in adapting to multiple environments, situations and demographics in the tri-county area and beyond

• Strong demonstrated interpersonal communication and presentation skills across a variety of communication modalities.

• Must be self-directed, self-motivated and highly organized

• Must be comfortable working in a matrixed organization, requiring the ability to communicate across multiple departments with multiple stakeholders

• Basic experience with budgets and managing expenses

• Travel, primarily in Central Oregon required

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

 

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• Bilingual a plus, Spanish preferred

• Master’s degree in education administration, business, psychology or other related degree

• Previous experience with youth mentorship and/or coaching

• Previous experience working with first generation, Pell Grant-eligible and/or differently abled status prospective matriculants

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

 

Light travel required. Occasional evening or weekend work
