Program and Events Internship
Program and Events Internship
The Calestous Juma Legacy Foundation is seeking a part-time, virtual intern to join our team from late August to mid-December (with some flexibility for class schedules). This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our Executive Director and contribute to impactful programs that support grassroots initiatives in Kenya and enhance our international online presence.
This internship is ideal for a highly motivated, self-starting individual who is eager to take ownership of their work and make a real difference.
What You'll Do
You'll play a key role in supporting our programs and events, with a significant opportunity for creativity and ownership. Your responsibilities may include:
-
Event Conceptualization & Organization:
- Virtual seminar series with audience participation, creative elements, and networking.
- Round table discussions and strategic planning retreats with high-level advisors (great networking opportunity!).
- Virtual and in-person guest lectures at our technology education hub in rural Kenya (very impactful for our students!).
- Youth Essay Competition (very inspiring!).
- Content Creation: Draft compelling copy about our programs and events for our website, social media, and emails in collaboration with our Communications team.
- Attend Board and Committee meetings: Whenever possible, attend meetings or watch the video recordings, take minutes, and help with follow up on action items.
- Grants Research - Internet based research on grants to support our programs.
- Other duties as needed. Will be discussed thoroughly and agreed upon first.
How We'll Work Together
While this internship is largely self-driven after an initial orientation, you'll have consistent support. You'll have twice-weekly Zoom check-ins with our Executive Director, who will also be available for guidance via email and text whenever needed. We're looking for someone who is accountable and completes tasks in a timely manner.
Important Details
- This is an unpaid internship. We encourage you to seek course credit or explore "work-study" grants through your college, if applicable. Please note that it is your responsibility to confirm any institutional requirements for academic credit before accepting the position.
- Upon successful completion of the internship, we are happy to provide references and/or recommendations, as we have done for many past interns.
Who You Are
We're looking for someone with:
- Strong computer skills, especially with Google Docs.
- Event organizing experience or a strong desire to learn.
- Excellent writing skills.
- The ability to solve problems resourcefully and be resilient.
- Responsiveness and a strong sense of responsibility.
