Internship in Female Leadership, Politics, & Gender Parity

Power in Place’s (PiP’s) Mission

Our non-profit organization documents women in political leadership through a unique blend of portraiture and storytelling. By spotlighting the role of women in politics, our mission aims to positively influence the younger generation to actively participate in our democratic institutions. We believe that images are the most powerful way to reach young people and our goal is to utilize creative visual vehicles to reach today’s youth.

2025/2026 Internship

This academic year we will be focusing on the women of color who fought for universal suffrage during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  We will be exploring their efforts to enfranchise their communities alongside the broader suffrage movement led by white women.  Through the creation of a visual timeline, we hope to bring attention to their unsung histories.

How:

We will be collecting direct quotes and first-person narratives of suffragists of color.  Each intern will receive an individual to focus upon and is responsible for researching their enfranchisement efforts.  Presentations of our historical discoveries will center on visual mediums, such as social media, newsletters, and one-pagers.  Each intern will relate their suffragist to a modern-day female politician who has some affinity with or connection to the chosen historical figure.

This internship is ideal for students:

*Who are interested in gender & racial parity, civic engagement, the intersection of historical and political discourse, journalism, and/or visual medium’s role in political identity.

*Who would like to enhance their career goals and/or their socio-political agenda with the bonus of being able to participate remotely.

Intern Requirements:

****Dedicate approximately 3-4 hours per week for our 20-week internship

****Be able to participate in weekly team meetings via Zoom
