We serve industries that touch nearly every part of daily life: aerospace, agriculture, entertainment, marine, medical, automotive, food and beverage, and more. Our work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is everywhere.

Our customers don’t just rely on us to maintain what matters—they also look to us to help them imagine what’s next. Through tools like 3D CAD models, intuitive search, and a constantly evolving product offering, we help people discover new solutions, iterate on ideas, and improve the way they work.

Accelerate Your Career & Learn to Solve Meaningful Problems with Technology

We believe great technologists and problem-solvers come from any major. Solving real-world challenges with technology takes curiosity, clear thinking, resourcefulness, and a willingness to explore unfamiliar territory. These strengths show up across disciplines—not just in computer science—which is why we actively hire students with backgrounds in English, philosophy, economics, engineering, psychology, and more.

From your first day, you’ll dive into hands-on training and immediately begin contributing to work that matters. You’ll learn by doing—building systems that improve how our business runs, how customers find the products they need, and how teams across the company make better decisions.

You’ll work on a variety of projects that touch everything from warehouse automation to customer-facing features to AI-powered internal platforms. Along the way, you’ll build the skills needed to deliver real results—learning new technologies and ways of thinking in service of better outcomes. You’ll collaborate across teams to elevate the work, not just complete it—amplifying the impact of your ideas and the people around you. With support from mentors and peers, you’ll take ownership of your growth—seeking out challenges, closing knowledge gaps, and becoming a leader who delivers outcomes that matter to the business and our customers.

What You’ll Do
Our technology teams design and build the systems that power McMaster-Carr’s industry-leading e-commerce experience and drive our long-term growth. You’ll have the opportunity to work across a wide range of technologies and business areas—delivering solutions that make a real difference for our customers and our company.

For example, your work might include:

  • Improve how customers find what they need on our website
Design and test new features that make our site faster, smarter, and easier to use—so customers can enjoyably find the products they need.
  • Apply AI to real-world operations
Use tools like generative AI to streamline customer service, create better product descriptions and visuals, and automate internal workflows.
  • Make fulfillment smarter and help us plan ahead
Design systems that improve how we pick, pack, and ship orders—so customers get what they need, faster. Use forecasting tools and automation to anticipate demand, reduce delays, and scale our operations as customer needs evolve.
  • Design tools that free up teammates to focus on what matters
Automate routine tasks—like data entry or resource gathering—so people can spend more time solving complex, meaningful problems.
  • Help the business see what’s working—and act quickly when it’s not
Create dashboards and tracking tools that surface key insights and guide faster, better decisions. Build systems that capture feedback and route it to the right teams for action.

Who You Are

You are curious, driven, and eager to make an impact. You ask thoughtful questions, enjoy solving tough problems, and bring out the best in the people around you. You know that strong collaboration isn’t just about teamwork—it’s about creating the conditions for others to contribute fully, challenge ideas constructively, and move the work forward together.

We hire undergrads and advanced degree students from all majors—English, Physics, Economics, Theater, Engineering, and more—because we believe the best solutions come from diverse perspectives. If you're excited by the idea of building systems that make a difference and growing into a leader who shapes how technology powers business, we’d love to meet you.
