Photography and Digital Asset Intern (Spring 2026)
Overview:
The Photography and Digital Asset Intern will be an integral part of the Creative Services team at WaterFire Providence, gaining hands-on experience in visual storytelling and nonprofit arts communications. This internship offers a unique opportunity to build professional photography, digital asset management, and creative collaboration skills while contributing to one of Rhode Island’s most iconic arts organizations.
Internship Position Description:
The intern will assist with capturing compelling photography at WaterFire’s large-scale public art events, including special performances, receptions, volunteers, and general ambiance. They will also help prepare and edit images for use across WaterFire’s digital platforms and print materials, organize and categorize photography in a cloud-based archive, and contribute to maintaining a comprehensive photography database. Additional responsibilities may include pre-event planning, assisting with on-site logistics, working with other interns and staff to fulfill photography requests from multiple departments (e.g., marketing, development, programming), and performing light administrative tasks.
Professional Learning Goals:
The intern will develop technical skills in photography and image editing, gain experience working in a fast-paced event environment, and build a portfolio of high-quality event photography. They will also learn how visual media supports nonprofit communications, branding, and fundraising efforts. Interns will be encouraged to set personal goals aligned with their interests (e.g., learning more about digital asset management or nonprofit marketing) and will receive regular feedback and mentorship from the Creative Services team.
Other Educational Opportunities:
Interns will have opportunities to collaborate with team members across departments, participate in creative planning sessions, and attend staff meetings and select professional development workshops. As part of a cohort of interns, they will engage in peer learning, receive behind-the-scenes exposure to arts administration and event production, and gain insight into the role of visual storytelling in building community engagement and support for the arts.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop (Lightroom a plus)
- Interest in visual storytelling, arts and culture, and community engagement
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently and in teams
- Access to transportation and a valid driver’s license preferred
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit
