Community Engagement Intern

CRWA’s community engagement internship offers on-the-job training and experience in climate resilience, river restoration, and environmental justice. Interns will support our River Restoration program. Responsibilities may vary but can include researching stakeholders in a community, conducting outreach, planning and attending community meetings and events, tabling, hosting workshops, classroom visits, and supporting environmental advocacy efforts. The Community Engagement Intern will also be responsible for planning our yearly Herring Festival, a family-friendly event that draws hundreds of people each year to celebrate the run off the herring.

  • Learn about important climate change, water quality and environmental issues
  • Stakeholder engagement and outreach, and communications 
  • Event planning and management 
  • Professional experience working with a small non-profit organization
  • Working with diverse stakeholders
  • Event and workshop planning and implementation
  • Researching, writing, commenting and presenting about environmental issues to a variety of audiences 
  • Preparation of graphics for handouts/brochures, newsletter articles, and public presentations for education and outreach
  • A deeper understanding of the climate resilience policies that CRWA is pursuing in the watershed
  • Classroom visits and youth programming 

 

Desired Experience:

  • An interest in environmental and water quality issues
  • Experience in event planning and/or volunteer management 
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, multilingual is a plus!
  • Preliminary coursework in environmental science, political science, or a related field
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Canva and Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to work some evening and weekend hours
  • Access to a car and a valid driver’s license (strongly preferred
