Paid Internship Opportunity: Youth Development After School Program 

 

Position: College Intern – Education, Math, Business, and Finance Focus 

Department: City of Providence Recreation Department 

Location: Recreation Center 

Compensation: $20/hour 

Schedule: TBD (4 hours per week) 

Duration: 20 weeks 

 

About the Program: 

The City of Providence's Department of Recreation, in partnership with PASA and CLPVD, will launch an afterschool program funded by the Learn365 grant. This two-session ten-week program, designed for upper elementary students, focuses on math skills like budgeting, business plans, product analysis, and entrepreneurship. Students will work in groups to create a product or service using the library's makerspace resources. 

 

Internship overview: 

We seek motivated college students majoring or strong concentration in finance, accounting, or business for paid internships in our after-school program. Interns will implement the curriculum, mentor youth, and support daily operations. 

 

What intern will gain from experience: 

Hands on experience teaching and mentoring youth in mathematical and business related topics. 

Skill development in communication, leadership, youth engagement, and curriculum delivery.  

A unique opportunity to contribute to community empowerment through education. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Support the implementation of daily financial and mathematical literacy lessons. 

Help facilitate activities and sports-based programs and problem solving. 

Mentor and guide students through developing their own entrepreneurial ideas. 

Assist with daily programming from start to finish. 

Collaborate with after-school program staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and productive environment.  

Qualifications: 

Currently enrolled in a college program in Business, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Math, or related field(s) 

Strong interest and focus on work relating to youth development, community work, and entrepreneurship 

Excellent communication and teamwork skills 

Previous experience working with youth is a suggested but not required 

Must be reliable and able to commit to the full 10–20-week program
