Special Education: Speech and Language Pathologist

POSITION: Speech & Language Pathologist

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. A Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. 

2. A minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit aspects in normal aspects of human communication, development thereof, and clinical techniques for evaluation/management of speech and language disorders distributed as follows: 

3. Minimum of 12 semester hours in courses pertaining to normal development of speech, language, and hearing. 

4. Minimum of 30 semester hours in courses on communication disorders and evaluation/management of speech, language, and hearing disorders. 24 of these hours shall be in speech, and 6 in audiology. No more than 6 of the 30 semester hours may be earned for clinical practicum. 

5. Minimum of 30 semester hours that are acceptable on a graduate level, of which 21 shall be within the group specified in (b) above. 

6. Minimum of 300 clock hours of supervised practicum experience with people who present a variety of communication disorders, to be acquired in conjunction with academic training, 150 hours of which shall be obtained at the graduate level. 

7. Process the necessary qualifications to work with a broad range of general and special education students and to work with varying handicapped conditions. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Member of the building’s Child Study Committee. 

2. Conduct speech and language screenings to identify students who may require further evaluation or intervention services. 

3. Familiar with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC) systems. Assessments, implementation, and support of ACC devices and strategies for students with complex communication needs. 

4. Chair/ be a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation Team, depending on primary disability. 

5. Assume responsibility for convening/participating in IEPs. 

6. Evaluate students referred to for a speech and language evaluation or 3-year re-evaluation. 

7. Contact outside agencies when appropriate. 

8. Provide appropriate direct services to speech & language students. 

9. Provide consultative services to teachers/parents of speech & language impaired students. 

BASE RATE OF PAY: Per TFT Contract [$47,486.00 - $97,568.00] years of service will be taken into consideration.
