Position Overview
The Stark Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) is seeking a contracted Rural Business Development Specialist to provide comprehensive business support services to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Stark, Carroll, Wayne, and Tuscarawas counties. This contract position focuses on delivering technical assistance, business coaching, and educational programming to foster economic growth in rural communities.
Primary Responsibilities
Business Coaching & Technical Assistance
- Conduct one-on-one business coaching sessions with rural entrepreneurs
- Provide technical assistance in business planning, marketing, operations, and growth management
- Help clients refine business strategies and identify growth opportunities
- Assist with business plan development and implementation
- Connect clients with digital tools and resources to enhance online presence and productivity
Program Development & Implementation
- Facilitate Business Bootcamp Program workshops covering:
- Financial literacy training
- Access to capital strategies
- Marketing and branding
- Business management and operations
- Support the Rural Entrepreneurship Leadership Academy six-month mentorship program
- Coordinate Small Business Leadership Forums and networking events
- Organize and manage "pitch day" events for program participants
Client Support & Resource Connection
- Connect entrepreneurs with funding sources, grant programs, and investment networks
- Provide guidance on financial management and business finance strategies
- Facilitate connections with financial institutions specializing in rural development
- Offer Tier 2 (Akron MBAC) referrals to specialized business resources
Administrative & Program Management
- Maintain detailed client records and program documentation
- Prepare reports on program outcomes and client progress
- Coordinate with partner organizations and service providers
- Manage program schedules and logistics
- Participate in team meetings and professional development activities
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Entrepreneurship, or related field
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in business development, small business consulting, or entrepreneurship
- Experience working with rural or underserved communities preferred
- Proven track record in business coaching or mentoring
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of small business operations and challenges
- Knowledge of funding sources, grants, and capital access programs
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software
- Experience with digital marketing tools and online business platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Additional Requirements
- Extensive local travel required throughout Stark, Carroll, Wayne, and Tuscarawas counties
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings for forums and events
- Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
- Commitment to rural economic development and small business success
