Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne-Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center, an ultra-modern facility for career/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned
- Plan a program of activities that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students with disabilities
- Create an environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate for students with disabilities
- Schedule, attend, and conduct Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Educational Planning Team (IEPT) meetings within required timelines
- Orient the learning process toward the achievement of specific IEP goals
- Evaluate the accomplishments of the children on a regular basis and provide progress reports when necessary
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with parents
- Provide services in accordance with LRE
- Co-teach with general education peers to service students
- Progress monitor students on your caseload and in your co-taught classes
- Adapt, modify, accommodate general education curriculum to support student IEP goals and progress in the general education curriculum
- Support UDL and differentiation
- Prepare and conduct parent orientation
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for program paraprofessionals and volunteers
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
- Attend staff meetings when requested
- Work collaboratively within an educational team
- Regular and predictable attendance
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a BS or BA from accredited University
- Michigan Department of Education Teaching Certification with special education endorsement
- Candidates must meet Highly Qualified teacher requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must have good organizational skills
- Must have good written and oral language ability
- Good interpersonal skills with students, parents and staff
- Ability to operate computers and related software
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position and is frequently required to move about the inside of the building. This employee will be required to open and close books, operate office equipment and computers, and will need to be able to position themselves to reach under desks, sit next to students and interact with students sitting on the floor, etc. The person in this position frequently communicates with teachers, parents and students, including reading to students, and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee must be able to de-escalate students through non-intrusive practices. If trained in NVCI or CPI use strategies to support students.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The amount of contract, length of the workday and the number of workdays is based on the WWEA collective bargaining agreement.
