Paralegal (Entry-Level) – Civil Litigation

Position Overview

This person provides administrative and legal support to attorneys handling civil litigation matters. This position is intended for recent graduates and requires completion of legal training. The role focuses on developing litigation-specific paralegal skills while supporting case preparation and management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with civil litigation case preparation, including pleadings, motions, and discovery materials
  • Draft and format basic litigation documents under supervision
  • Organize, maintain, and update physical and electronic litigation files
  • Assist with discovery tasks, including document collection, organization, and review
  • Prepare exhibits, binders, and trial notebooks as directed
  • Assist with filing litigation documents with courts and government agencies
  • Track court deadlines and maintain litigation calendars under attorney direction
  • Coordinate service of process and subpoenas as instructed
  • Communicate with clients, courts, and opposing counsel as directed

Training and Development

  • Complete required onboarding and civil litigation training
  • Learn court rules, filing procedures, and litigation timelines
  • Receive ongoing supervision and feedback from attorneys and senior paralegals
  • Gradually assume increased responsibility as skills and knowledge develop

Confidentiality and Compliance

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information
  • Follow firm policies, court rules, and ethical standards
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness in handling litigation documents and deadlines

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • No prior civil litigation experience required
  • Basic familiarity with legal terminology and processes preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
  • Basic computer proficiency, including word processing and document management
  • Willingness to learn civil litigation procedures and accept feedback

Work Conditions

  • Office-based position
  • Primarily sedentary work with periodic filing and document preparation
  • Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
