Historic House Museum Internship
HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM INTERNSHIP (Summer 2026)

The “Forty Acres and Its Skirts” National Register historic district
The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Internship program has been launching careers in public history and supporting student learning goals for almost fifty years. The Porter-Phelps-Huntington House was built in 1752 in Hadley, MA. Today, the 114 acre property is “Forty Acres and Its Skirts,” a National Register historic district that includes the historic house museum and Phelps Farm, surrounded by gardens, farmland, protected forest, and river frontage. The Museum’s collection contains the belongings of six generations of the family and a record of the free and enslaved, indigenous, and immigrant labor that has sustained the site. Open from mid May to mid October, the museum offers guided tours, an outdoor concert series, a Reading Frederick Douglass event, and rich research opportunities to scholars, students, and the public.
