Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant provides treatment to patients experiencing injuries or conditions affecting muscles, nerves, joints, and bones. This role focuses on improving function, increasing strength, relieving pain, and promoting independence.
This position provides care to diverse patient populations and requires demonstrated competency appropriate to the individuals served.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Physical Therapist Assistant license in good standing in the State of Michigan
- BLS certification required within 3 months of hire
- PTA experience preferred
Driving Requirement (if applicable)
- Valid Michigan driver’s license
- Reliable vehicle available for business use
- Proof of valid auto insurance
- Successful Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check prior to start date
- Employees are responsible for maintaining current insurance documentation and updating vehicle information as applicable.
Skills and Competencies
- Basic computer, typing, and mobile device skills for documentation
- Strong teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and care teams
- Ability to handle sensitive patient situations with professionalism and empathy
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Clinical Responsibilities
- Follow the plan of care and goals established by the Physical Therapist
- Provide direct patient care, including physical, electrical, mechanical, and heat treatments as prescribed
- Conduct individual and/or group therapy activities and assist patients in skill development
- Educate patients, families, and community members
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning
- Support program development initiatives
- Serve as a clinical resource in areas of expertise
- Participate in student education and clinical rotations
- Provide in-services within the Bronson Rehabilitation System
- Cross-train and provide coverage across Rehabilitation Services as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
- Document patient care in the electronic health record within required timelines
- Communicate documentation barriers to leadership promptly
- Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
- Participate in committees, task forces, and quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrate effective time management
- Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers
- The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for maintaining and advancing professional competencies based on patient populations served, type of care provided, and evolving healthcare practices.
