Who We Are

Code Ninjas Arlington is a locally owned STEM education center serving families in Arlington, McLean, Falls Church, and the greater Northern Virginia community. We teach kids ages 5–14 how to code by building video games in a fun, safe, and engaging dojo environment.

Our mission is to empower the next generation of problem-solvers, engineers, and technology leaders. Beyond our core belt program, we are building competitive STEM pathways including FIRST LEGO League (FLL), robotics teams, USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) preparation, drone competitions, and advanced coding clubs.

Position Overview

We are seeking a high-energy, technically strong Sensei to help launch and grow Code Ninjas Arlington. This is a leadership role responsible for instructional excellence, Sensei team management, student engagement, and technical oversight of the dojo.

The Sensei will work directly with the Center Director and Owner to establish a strong culture, develop competitive programs, and deliver exceptional experiences to Arlington families.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of high school and college-aged Senseis
  • Set the tone for a fun, safe, high-performance learning environment
  • Support hiring, training, and performance development of instructional staff
  • Uphold corporate standards for cleanliness, safety, and operational excellence
  • Provide weekly updates to the Center Director/Owner on student progress and team dynamics

Instruction & Student Engagement

  • Guide students through Code Ninjas’ self-paced belt curriculum (not lecture-based)
  • Debug student projects across platforms (Scratch, Roblox, Unity, Minecraft, etc.)
  • Serve as the technical escalation point when challenges arise
  • Engage directly with parents regarding student progress and growth
  • Inspire students to pursue advanced STEM pathways

Technical & Program Development

  • Assist in launching robotics teams (FLL, VEX, etc.)
  • Support competitive programming initiatives (USACO prep, coding clubs)
  • Test, debug, and enhance new curriculum offerings
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hardware, servers, robotics kits, and software platforms

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years programming experience (professional, freelance, academic, or project-based)
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • JavaScript, Python, C#, or similar languages
  • Unity, Roblox Studio, or Minecraft modding
  • Arduino, Raspberry Pi
  • VEX or FIRST Robotics platforms
  • Experience mentoring youth, tutoring, coaching, or leading teams preferred
  • Working knowledge of how to fix laptops
  • Enthusiasm for working with kids ages 5–14
  • Positive attitude, leadership mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
