Accounting Assistant Intern

Purpose

Our private market operations services encompass marketing, human resources, IT, accounting, risk management, operations, and other professional areas where small and medium-sized businesses need to thrive. Due to growing demand for our services, we are looking to add an Accounting Assistant Intern to our team.

This role requires a high level of independence and self-direction. The Accounting Assistant Intern must be comfortable working with limited day-to-day supervision, as the partner and supervising leadership may not always be immediately available. The ideal candidate is a quick learner who can think critically, research solutions, adapt to changing priorities, and proactively identify and address issues while communicating clearly when clarification is needed.

Roles and Responsibilities 

The Accounting Assistant Intern will support client accounting operations with a primary focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related data tracking functions.

  • Accurately enter bills, receipts, invoices, and other documents into QuickBooks and/or QuickBooks Online.
  • Process accounts payable, including recording, reconciling, and tracking vendor payments.
  • Process accounts receivable, including recording deposits, reconciling invoices, and assisting with follow-up collections.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and customers regarding billing and payment status as needed.
  • Run financial reports in QuickBooks as necessary.
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reports.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, or errors and take initiative to resolve or escalate them appropriately.
  • Complete special projects and other accounting or administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently so as to communicate effectively with clients and team members
  • High School diploma or equivalent; coursework in accounting, finance, or business is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with QuickBooks or QuickBooks Online, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned tasks, ask thoughtful questions when needed, and complete work accurately and on time with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for excellence and self-improvement
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes, and client requirements rapidly.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and willingness to think critically and learn quickly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and adherence to strict confidentiality standards.

Success in this role is demonstrated by the consistent completion of tasks accurately and on time with minimal follow-up, proactive identification and resolution of issues, and continued growth in accounting knowledge, system proficiency, and professional judgment throughout the internship. Over time, leadership should be able to rely on the intern to manage routine accounting tasks independently and professionally.
