1:1 Special Education Aide; After School Program

Under the supervision of the after-school program Site Supervisor, performs tasks to support the safety and engagement of special education students. If the assigned student is absent from the program, the aide will support the after-school program by leading and implementing developmentally appropriate art, STEM, sports, and team-building activities.

o The aide may work with students who have severe physical, emotional, educational, or behavioral problems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

o Works individually with an assigned student under the direction of the after-school Site Supervisor

o Assists in the preparation and distribution of materials for the student to complete (art projects, etc.)

o Reinforces staff’s lessons using related audiovisual equipment, such as an iPad, to help students communicate

o Assists with outdoor supervision to ensure safety for the assigned special education student during outdoor play time

o Supervises assigned student to ensure that they do not fall or hurt themselves with objects in the classroom

o Hygiene: The student may need support using the restroom. Aide must be comfortable changing the student and supporting with bathroom needs. Additional compensation will be applied when working 1:1 with the assigned student with bathroom needs.

Required Hours (17.5 Hours/Week)

2:00 PM-6:00 PM (Monday, Thursday, and Friday)

12:00 PM- 6:00 PM (Wednesday); 30-minute unpaid lunch

Extra Duty Hours- As Needed (4 hours/week)

2:00 PM- 6:00 PM (Tuesday)

Qualifications:

o Interest in helping elementary school students to improve their social and communication skills

o Fundamental understanding of English and general education.

o Experience working with students in a special education setting is desired.

o Experience working with students in a classroom, daycare, playground, or group setting is helpful.

Ability to:

o Relate to children and work cooperatively with other staff, parents, and school community members in the course of daily responsibilities

o Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in all matters relating to students

o Understand and follow oral and written instructions

o Communicate clearly to students, staff, and parents

o Operate required audiovisual and general office equipment

o Use clerical and computer skills as required in the specific classroom setting.

Please note: This position is paid monthly. Employees receive a paycheck at the end of the month.
