Middle School Health Educator

Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Candidate must hold a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license in Health Education.

2. Knowledge of the organizational structure and elements of a successful program, in alignment with the MA Model of Health Education curriculum.

3. Understanding of leadership theories and principles, developmental theory, social justice theory, learning theories, multiculturalism and health and wellness theories.

4. Knowledge of the full continuum of health and wellness services, such as prevention and intervention.

5. Thorough understanding of barriers to student learning and the use of decisions making models to eliminate those barriers.

6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate.

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide comprehensive health education that is medically accurate, age and developmentally appropriate.

2. Implement curriculum that is culturally inclusive and in a safe and supportive learning environment where ALL students feel valued.

3. Use the Health Education Frameworks to serve as a guiding document for the grade 10 Health Education curriculum and instruction.

4. Promote healthy lifestyle habits, healthy relationships and health-literacy for all students.

5. Provide programs and services that develop essential attitudes, knowledge and skills for student to make healthy and informed decisions.

6. Organize program coordination with staff, parents/caregivers and community resources.
