Mechanical Engineer / CS Student Needed for Raspberry Pi-based Quality Control Machine Project

Our ecommerce company needs your help to complete the development and assembly of a small machine that checks the durability of our product (crochet hooks). We’re halfway through this project but don’t have the time to finish the circuit board design, app creation, and final assembly.
The machine is small (~10x10x10”), framed in aluminum extrusion, includes small mechanical + electrical components (motor, linear rails, pillow block bearings, 3D printed parts), and controlled by a Raspberry Pi.
You’ll be responsible for the physical design of the machine and its components, as well as writing the Python to run on the Raspberry Pi.
We’re based in downtown Austin (600 Guadalupe St), and you will need to be able to commute 1x a week for at least 1-2 hours in person. Success in this project will likely lead to ongoing work of this type.

Responsibilities include:
- 3D design + modeling
- 3D printing (on site)
- Soldering and assembly of small mechanical and electrical components
- Writing and deploying a small app (likely NodeJS + Python)
- Testing and optimizing machine design
