OVERVIEW:
The Upper School Humanities Teacher (USHT) provides instruction in humanities courses to Logic School (middle school) and/or Rhetoric School (high school) students at Augustine Classical Academy. He/she has a demonstrated passion for and knowledge of great literary works and is effective at introducing these, in their historical context, to young learners. The USHT instructs students to provide a well-rounded, comprehensive classical education rooted in a biblical worldview. He/she guides students in cultivating intellectual and personal habits upon which responsible, independent, and productive lives are built. This is accomplished through the creation of lesson plans, inspiration, positive feedback, and constructive critique with the goal of promoting intellectual curiosity and Christian formation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Instruction and Management
Teach five (5) Upper School humane letters and/or elective courses in the integrated areas of literature, history, theology, and government with emphasis on the ancient, medieval, and modern historical periods.
Maintain up-to-date lesson plans.
Maintain a joyful, clean, and orderly classroom.
Grade and return all student work within one week of its original submission.
Participate in non-academic duties as assigned by the Upper School Principal (e.g., morning drop-off, afternoon pick-up, lunch monitoring, recess monitoring).
Participate in regular (monthly, unless otherwise specified) teacher-curriculum meetings.
Provide grade-specific and domain-specific feedback to ACA administration.
Partnership with Parents
Participate in parent-related special events throughout the year (e.g., Exordium, Speech Meet, Christmas Concert).
Maintain regular communication with parents through weekly updates, progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, and informal interactions.
Respond to parent communications in a timely manner and work to resolve any parent concerns.
Learn parent names and greet parents personally as opportunity presents.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (minimum); relevant graduate-level work preferred.
Ability to commit to ACA mission, statement of faith, and employee standards of conduct.
Classroom teaching experience (one year minimum).
Familiarity with Classical Christian education (preferred) and willingness to be trained in the classical Christian educational model.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well with students, staff, and parents.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$45,000–$65,000 annual salary depending on experience and qualifications.
PTO: Four full days per year (in addition to days the school is closed).
Sick Leave: Six full days per year.
Partially sponsored health, dental, and vision insurance plans (60% for full-time employees and 50% for dependents; 50% for part-time employees working 20+ hours/week).
Life insurance: $25,000.
Reduced ACA tuition for dependents (10% for part-time; 20% for full-time).
