Educational Interpreter
Status: Full-time
Schedule: 7.5 Hours/Day (7:30 am-3:00 pm) Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year
Minimum Salary: $34.25
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Educational Interpreters need to be able to interpret or transliterate in sign language all activities in the classroom and/or follow classroom schedules and interpret for students as indicated by their Individualized Educational Plans (IEP).
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education Required: Associate degree or higher, a degree from
Interpreter’s Training Program or other
appropriate training/experience.
Certification Required: National RID certification (ED: K-12) preferred; Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) rating 3.5 or higher in the assigned setting.
Experience Required: Competence in verbal English, vocabulary, syntax, and grammar; the ability to interpret/transliterate (expressive and voice) at a normal conversational rate and/or the ability to provide oral transliteration.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
The strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students ranging in age from pre-school to twenty-one and any assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair. The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI), Safe Crisis Management (SCM) or Quality Behavior Supports (QBS) method, depending on program need, for which training will be provided.
