PLAYGROUND Supervisor

NATURE OF WORK 

Under general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, provides a wide range of recreation activities and fun outdoor opportunities for children ages 6 – 12.  Develops, prepares and implements weekly theme-based activity plans to help participants actively engage, learn and have fun throughout the summer. Displays leadership amongst Playground Staff. 


HOURS 

27 weekday hours:  Monday – Thursday, June 8 through July 31, 2026. 

Orientation: June 8 - 11. No program on June 19 and June 29 - July 2, 2026. 

This is a seasonal position and is therefore temporary in nature. Position ends at the end of the season.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Actively engages with and provides supervision of participants to create a safe and interactive environment, including ensuring safety precautions, caring for and maintaining equipment, materials, and facilities, and performing light maintenance duties as assigned. 

Collaborates with other staff members for success of the program. 

Communicates and builds positive relationships with participant family members.  

Communicates with Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor on daily reports and ongoings. 

Assists in the preparation and supervision of on-site and off-site field trips. 

Attends and participates in all orientation, planning and staff meetings. 

Prepares necessary forms and reports (accident, attendance, property damage) and assumes direct responsibility of turning in all written forms and materials to supervisor, as required. 

Administers first aid for minor injuries sustained by participants. 

Responsible for Playgrounds program’s daily schedule in the absence of the Recreation Coordinator.

Ability to give direction to other staff to ensure the Playgrounds program is running effectively. 

Ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of people and ages. 

Ability to be creative and spontaneous, enthusiastic and flexible. 

Ability to follow procedures when emergency situations arise. 

Ability to understand and respect the diversity of participants and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals who speak languages beyond English. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Must be at least 16 years of age.    

One year experience working, volunteering, or having lived experience with children ages 6-12. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

18 years of age 

Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Hmong or Vietnamese.  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to: 

 

Regularly walk, stand, move around the buildings/outdoor environment, to actively engage with participants and access program materials/equipment (could include lifting/moving up to 50lbs)
