NATURE OF WORK:  The Personal Trainer is responsible for providing safe, effective, and high-quality personal training services to recreation center patrons. This position focuses on developing individualized fitness programs that improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, endurance, and overall wellbeing while maintaining a positive and motivating environment. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all program participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to listen to, read, understand, and communicate the English language both orally and in writing so others can understand, such as correspondence, report writing, and emails.
  • To support consistent high-quality service for our community and each other, it is the expectation of all employees to be punctual and have good attendance and to communicate effectively for scheduling conflicts or when taking leave according to city policy. 
  • Develop and implement comprehensive personal training programs tailored to individual client goals and abilities.
  • Conduct pre-session screenings and address physical limitations or medical concerns prior to training sessions.
  • Demonstrate safe and effective exercise techniques using proper auditory and visual cues.
  • Modify exercises to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities.
  • Educate participants in proper form, safety, and fitness principles.
  • Prepare and evaluate the training environment by removing obstructions and setting up necessary equipment.
  • Track client progress and adjust programs to ensure continued motivation and achievement of fitness milestones.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and maintain professional relationships with participants, staff, and the public.
  • Follow attendance, scheduling, and substitute procedures as outlined by department policy.
  • Attend mandatory meetings, training, and workshops.
  • Maintain current knowledge of fitness trends and best practices.
  • Assist with training and mentoring other personal trainers as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of one current nationally accredited Personal Training certification.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain within ninety days of hire.

 

Preferred:

  • One year of personal training or program design experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, talk, hear and see. The employee is required to perform lifting 40 pounds. Employee is required to work indoors.
