Position: Congregate Meal Delivery Driver
Department: Aging, Health & Wellness
Reports to: Kitchen Supervisor
Hours: Part-Time (M-F; 7:30am - 2:00pm)
Salary: $18.86 per hour
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Location: On-site
Position Summary:
The Congregate Meal Delivery Driver/ will be responsible for driving a Union Settlement vehicle to Older Adult Centers in East Harlem to deliver food for congregate meals.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver food to Older Adult Centers on a daily basis
• Use appropriate heating and cooling devices when packing food
• Package food into hot and cold containers each day for delivery
• Clean and sanitize all delivery bags, boxes, holding containers, and truck compartments daily
• Perform general maintenance on vehicles (cleaning interior and exterior, fueling) and take vehicles for scheduled maintenance and inspections
• Report accidents and incidents to the supervisor
• Attend training sponsored by DFTA and DOH
• Assist with receiving, unpacking, and storing all food according to policy and guidelines immediately upon delivery. This includes dating perishable and canned goods
• Assist with kitchen and Meals on Wheels duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager, Deputy Director of Senior Services, or Director of Senior Services.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Valid license to operate a vehicle in New York State
• A minimum three years’ experience operating a vehicle
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance/ repairs
• No convictions for driving while intoxicated in the prior 2 years
• No more than one moving violation within the prior 2 years
• English speaking and writing proficiency; Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (40+ pounds), as well as walk to deliver meals daily
• Ability to walk up 6 flights of stairs while carrying delivery bag(s) weighing up to 40 pounds
• Good organizational ability, time management, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to connect with clients and work with a team
• Knowledge of and desire to work with aging populations
