Preschool Teacher

                                                 Extracurricular Coaching Opportunities Available

 

NATURE OF POSITION

  • The Preschool Teacher shall be responsible for providing the appropriate phases of instruction to those children at the preschool level.
  • The Preschool Teacher shall be responsible to a district administrator.
  • The Preschool Teacher shall work with the various coordinators and service personnel in furnishing suitable programs and services for each child.                                                                                                                                       

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons aligned to state early learning standards
  • Implement structured early literacy practices including phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, name writing, and message writing
  • Provide explicit early numeracy instruction, including subitizing, one-to-one correspondence, counting with accuracy, number sense development, and beginning addition and subtraction within five
  • Integrate hands-on math experiences using manipulatives and visual models to build conceptual understanding
  • Deliver intentional social-emotional instruction, including self-regulation, emotional identification, peer interaction skills, problem-solving, and classroom routines that build independence
  • Use explicit modeling, guided practice, and gradual release to support skill mastery
  • Incorporate multisensory strategies (e.g., skywriting, manipulatives, movement-based learning)
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse developmental needs

Assessment & Data Use

  • Administer district-approved early childhood assessments
  • Monitor student progress in foundational literacy, language, and social-emotional development
  • Use data to inform instructional adjustments and targeted support
  • Communicate student progress clearly to families and administration

 

Classroom Environment & Management

  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom climate
  • Maintain a high positive-to-negative interaction ratio
  • Use proactive classroom management strategies to support engagement and reduce challenging behaviors
  • Create structured routines that promote independence and self-regulation

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with families
  • Communicate regularly regarding student progress and classroom activities
  • Participate in family engagement events and school initiatives

Professional Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in professional development related to early childhood best practices
  • Engage in coaching cycles and collaborative planning
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement efforts
  • Maintain compliance with district and state early childhood requirements

 PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION     

  • Hold an Early Child Development or Elementary Degree
  • Have at least fifteen credits in early childhood education/child development and be working toward an early childhood certification.
  • Demonstrated experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 3-5) in a school or structured learning environment.
  • Knowledge of child development principles, early literacy foundations and developmentally appropriate practice.
  • Be flexible, creative, and innovative.
  • Possess a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrate a genuine affection and empathy for the preschool child.
  • Ability to actively engage with young children at floor level and table height
  • Ability to lift classroom materials and interact in a physically active early childhood setting
