Position Overview

Woodruff Scout Camp is seeking enthusiastic college students and young professionals to join our Summer 2026 Camp Staff Team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain leadership experience, develop professional skills, and spend the summer working outdoors while making a lasting impact on youth.

Each summer, Woodruff Scout Camp hosts approximately 6,000 Scouts, 2,000 adult volunteers, and operates with a staff of around 250, creating a vibrant and active camp community. Staff members work together to provide high-quality outdoor programs and create life-changing experiences for youth from across the United States.

This position is ideal for students studying outdoor recreation, education, psychology, parks & recreation, environmental science, hospitality, business, communications, or related fields, but applicants from all majors are welcome.

Program Areas

Applicants may be placed in one of several adventure or program areas based on experience and interests, including:

Aquatics Staff / Lifeguards
Support waterfront activities including swimming, boating, and water safety instruction. Lifeguard certification required or may be obtained during staff training.

Fishing / Nature Staff
Teach fishing skills, outdoor ethics, and nature programs while helping Scouts develop a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.

Whitewater Rafting Guides
Help facilitate exciting whitewater rafting experiences for Scouts while emphasizing teamwork, safety, and outdoor adventure.

Horsemanship Guides
Assist with our horsemanship program by helping Scouts learn basic riding skills and experience horseback riding in a safe environment.

Range & Target Activities Staff
Support shooting sports programs including archery, rifle, and shotgun ranges while maintaining strict safety standards and teaching marksmanship fundamentals.

Responsibilities

Camp staff work as part of a team to deliver safe, engaging, and meaningful programs for campers. Responsibilities may include:

Teaching outdoor skills and program activities

Supervising and mentoring youth in a positive camp environment

Maintaining program areas and equipment

Supporting daily camp operations

Assisting with evening programs and camp-wide activities

Helping create a welcoming and supportive camp community

All staff members contribute to the overall operation of camp and may assist with additional duties such as meal service, troop guiding, and camp maintenance.

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older by the start of employment

Ability to work with youth in an outdoor environment

Strong teamwork and communication skills

Willingness to live and work in a residential camp setting

Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working with young people

Preferred:

Experience working with youth

Outdoor recreation or camp experience

Lifeguard certification (for Aquatics positions)

Interest in outdoor leadership and education
