Accounting Intern
As an Accounting Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the finance and accounting functions of a high-growth infrastructure company at the intersection of renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and AI. You'll work closely with experienced professionals on real financial processes, contribute to accurate reporting, and learn about project accounting, capital expenditures, and financial controls in a dynamic startup-like environment. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates pursuing accounting, finance, or business degrees who are interested in sustainable infrastructure, energy transition, and tech-enabled development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with accounts payable/receivable processing, invoice review, coding, and payment preparation.
- Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Help maintain general ledger accounts, track fixed assets, and support capitalization of project development costs (e.g., land, permits, infrastructure).
- Compile and analyze financial data for management reports, budgets, and forecasts related to renewable power projects and digital campus developments.
- Participate in expense tracking, reimbursement processing, and compliance with internal policies and GAAP standards.
- Assist with audit preparation by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.
- Perform ad-hoc financial analysis, research on incentives/rebates in the renewable energy sector, and data entry/validation tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (project development, engineering, legal) to understand cost structures and financial implications of infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures in a growing organization.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate within 12 months) pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong academic performance with coursework in financial accounting, managerial accounting, or intermediate accounting preferred.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis); experience with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is a plus.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Interest in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, data centers, AI growth, or sustainable development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or part-time experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance (e.g., campus jobs, family business, or prior internships).
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or ERP systems) or willingness to learn quickly.
- Exposure to project accounting, capital projects, or cost tracking in construction/infrastructure/renewables.
- Located in or able to travel occasionally to Houston for in-person collaboration (travel support may be provided for key activities).
