For nearly a century, Camp Old Indian has stood as one of the premier Scouting America camps in the Southeast — a place where adventure meets leadership and where every week changes lives.
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Camp Old Indian is operated by Scouting America’s Blue Ridge Council, serving youth from across Southeast. Each summer, hundreds of Scouts come here to explore, learn, and grow — guided by an exceptional staff that brings the magic to life.
🧭 Your Role
As a Department Director, you’ll lead one of our key program areas — STEM, High Adventure — and help shape the quality and safety of our camp experience.
You will:
- Ensure a top-quality program by leading daily instruction and maintaining safety and compliance standards.
- Manage your department, including supervising and mentoring staff instructors and Counselors-in-Training.
- Teach and mentor, leading a select number of merit badge classes and specialized workshops.
- Run camp-wide activities, evening programs, and inter-department events.
- Serve as a leader, role model, and mentor to youth and staff alike.
🏕️ Qualifications
- Minimum Age: 18 years old by May 31, 2026
- Experience: Prior program or teaching experience preferred; Scouting background a plus but not required
- Leadership: Strong communication, organization, and mentoring skills
- Commitment: Available for training and full camp season (May 31–July 12)
