Lifeguard
Job Summary
The Lifeguard ensures the safety and well-being of all camper's aquatic activities. This role involves supervision, enforcing safety rules, assisting younger campers in the water, performing rescues when necessary, and maintaining a positive, supportive environment that fosters campers’ confidence in and around the water.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all campers and staff participating in swimming
- Monitor pool area to prevent accidents and respond quickly to emergencies.
- Enforce all camp and aquatic safety rules consistently and fairly.
- Perform rescues, administer first aid, and provide CPR as needed.
- Conduct regular safety checks of the pool, equipment, and surrounding areas; report hazards promptly.
- Assist with daily setup and cleanup of aquatics areas.
- Lead or assist with swim instruction and water-based games as directed.
- Collaborate with counselors and directors to ensure smooth transitions and camper accountability.
- Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports and maintain daily records.
- Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, respect, and camp values.
Qualifications
- Current Lifeguard Certification, including water front (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
- Minimum age: 18
- Ability to stay focused under pressure and react decisively in emergencies.
- Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting preferred.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and strong communication skills.
Work Environment
- Beach front (½ day)
- Outdoor pool; variable weather conditions.
- Extended periods in sun, heat, or water.
- Requires alertness, concentration, and physical mobility throughout the day.
