Camp Counselor
POSITION: CAMP MIRAGE COUNSELOR
RESPONSIBLE TO: CAMP DIRECTOR AND CAMP MANAGERS
QUALITIES NEEDED:
GENERAL:
1) Understanding of the aims and objectives of camping
2) Ability to work with children to grow in character, experiences, and insights
3) Knowledge of camp program and planning
4) Implement the Camp syllabus and report any schedule changes to the Director
5) Guard the health and well-being of campers at all times
SPECIFIC:
1) At least 18 years old
2) Experience working with children
3) Ability to work in the out of doors comfortably
4) Be enthusiastic, dependable, and fun
RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL:
1) Work with a group of 8-10 campers to experience a safe, growing, fun camp experience
2) Work with other staff in a supportive manner
SPECIFIC:
1) Evaluate information on campers assigned to you
2) Greet campers and families upon arrival and orient them to camp
3) Establish with campers, rules, and emergency procedures
4) Plan with the campers' activities
5) Participate in all camp functions
6) Acknowledge camper's special needs and discuss with Director if needed. Do not discuss with anyone else.
7) Help keep our site clean and organized
8) Communicate with parents about participants' experiences and report concerns to Camp Leadership.
9) Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, accident reports, and daily attendance.
10) Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
11) Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes, but is not limited to, being responsible for the safety and whereabouts of your campers at all times.
12) Help guide CITs to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills.
13) Attend pre-camp and ongoing staff meetings and training
14) Report any suspicion of child abuse to your camp director and discuss it with no one else
15) Help out where needed in any area of camp to contribute to the successful operation of Camp Mirage
