Student Success Intern - Education Learning Community

Student Success Intern Position – Education Learning Community 

Start Date: August 2026 

Compensation: $1,500 for the academic year paid in monthly installments

About Student Success and Retention: Student Success and Retention is dedicated to empowering students with integrity and compassion. We accomplish this goal by using strengths-based programming and collaborating with campus partners to support and assist students in achieving degree completion. Our team engages in data informed strengths-based retention and student success practices. 

Position Summary: The Student Success Intern position for the Education Learning Community provides valuable support to the Student Success and Retention (SSR) team at UNCW and the Education Learning Community. The SSR Student Success Intern will contribute to the university’s efforts in building a strong culture of belonging, support, and achievement among students. This position is ideal for undergraduate students seeking meaningful, high-impact experiences in mentoring, communications, data analysis, or research. 

All Student Success Interns will participate in professional development, team meetings, and planning activities. Each position will have a specific focus area.  

Focus Area:  

Peer Mentor – Education Learning Community (8-10 per week) 

  • Serve as a peer mentor to the Education Learning Community (ELC) 
  • Build supportive relationships with LC Scholars and assist with goal setting 
  • Facilitate intentional interactions and document them in Starfish 
  • Host social programs for the ELC based on the 4 dimensions of the UNCW Student Success Definition 
    • Academic Achievement, Career Preparedness, Engagement, and Holistic Wellbeing
  • Support LC events hosted by the LC Coordinator 
  • Any duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A minimum cumulative 2.5 UNCW GPA 
  • Completion of 24 credit hours at UNCW by the end of the 2025-2026 academic year 
  • Be in good academic standing 
  • Full-time enrollment at UNCW during the 2025-2026 academic year
  • Commitment to supporting peers and advancing student success initiatives 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work collaboratively 

Preferred Characteristics: 

  • Experience in a learning community, campus leadership, or academic support roles 
  • Knowledge of the Watson College of Education 
  • Interest in peer mentoring or educational research 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with faculty and staff 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Knowledge of campus resources and information 
  • Ability to motivate self and others 
  • Ability to work in a team oriented and ambiguous environment 

Professional Development Opportunities
