Middle Grades Teacher
Job description:
St. Bernard’s School is seeking an energetic, forward-thinking educator to join our departmentalized 4th–6th grade team. This role is designed for a teacher who thrives on collaboration and is passionate about guiding 6th graders through their "Senior Year" in our building. Beyond core subject instruction, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our Senior Seminar, fostering independence, leadership, and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Departmentalized Instruction: Deliver high-quality, specialized instruction in a core subject area (e.g., ELA, Math, or Science/Social Studies) to students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
- Senior Seminar Leadership: Facilitate 3–5 week modules for 6th graders, covering topics such as executive functioning, sustainability, health and wellness, and public speaking.
- Capstone Mentorship: Serve as a project advisor for 6th-grade Capstone projects, guiding students from the "Problem Hunt" in March through the final Showcase in June.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in daily shared planning periods with the 4th–6th grade team to align curriculum, discuss student wellness, and coordinate multi-grade initiatives like novel studies.
- Student Advocacy: Lead flexible Study Hall sessions where students from across the 4–6 wing can check in for targeted support and mentorship.
