Frontend Developer (AI-Native, Contractor)

About CambridgeNexus

CambridgeNexus is a Boston-based AI infrastructure startup providing GPU-as-a-service to the world's most ambitious AI companies and research labs. We're early stage, moving fast, and building the compute backbone that next-generation AI models run on. Our team is small, our standards are high, and everything we ship matters.

What Type of Position Is This?

This role begins as a part-time 1099 contractor position with the potential to grow into a full-time W-2 role as the company scales. You'll work flexible hours on a project basis, making it ideal for a student, recent graduate, or freelancer looking to do meaningful work alongside other commitments. You will be responsible for your own taxes and will not receive traditional employee benefits.

Mission

Build the interfaces that the world's most ambitious AI teams interact with every day. You'll bring designs to life with speed and precision while making sure everything CambridgeNexus ships on the web is fast, polished, and production-ready.

Role Description

We're looking for a Frontend Developer who executes with craft and moves fast. You'll work closely with our graphic designer to translate designs into clean, responsive code, and use AI-assisted and vibe coding workflows to prototype and iterate quickly. You don't need to invent the vision, but you do need to own the implementation. This role is fully remote and we're looking for someone who thrives with that autonomy rather than needing it managed around them.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the CambridgeNexus website, help center, and customer portal
  • Implement designs from our graphic designer with precision and attention to detail
  • Use vibe coding tools and AI-assisted workflows to prototype and ship quickly
  • Maintain consistency across components and pages as the product scales
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate APIs and real-time data into the UI
  • Catch and fix frontend issues: performance, responsiveness, cross-browser bugs

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of frontend experience with a solid portfolio of shipped work
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React (or equivalent modern framework)
  • Comfortable with vibe coding tools (Cursor, v0, Lovable, or similar) and AI-assisted workflows
  • Strong eye for implementing designs accurately: spacing, type, and responsiveness matter to you
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: you treat the product like it's yours and don't wait to be told what needs fixing
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and proven working independently in a remote environment
  • Bonus: experience with developer-facing or technical products

Will This Role Help Me Gain Experience?

Yes, significantly. You'll be one of the first people building the web presence of an AI infrastructure company from the ground up. Your work will be live, public, and seen by AI researchers, engineers, and enterprise customers. You'll get hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development workflows, a real product codebase, and direct collaboration with a technical founding team. For anyone early in their career, this is the kind of role that accelerates your trajectory fast.

Perks & Benefits

  • Fully remote: work from anywhere, on your schedule
  • Direct access to and mentorship from a technical founding team
  • Real ownership over work that ships and gets seen
  • Exposure to the AI infrastructure industry at an early and exciting stage
  • Flexible hours that work around school or other commitments
  • Portfolio-worthy work from day one

Work Authorization

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. We are not able to sponsor visas for this contractor position.
