Permit Technician
PERMIT TECHNICIAN 1 / COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - BUILDING AND CODE ENFORCEMENT
JOB OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to provide general clerical support to the department, including entering data into the computer. This position acts under the supervision of the Senior Clerical Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers, returns and transfers telephone calls and emails to the appropriate personnel. Provides information on general procedures for services rendered by the division and answers general questions.
- Enters new complaint information into computer and assigns work in inspection staff. Assists, reviews, and provides direction and instruction on work assigned to personnel.
- Maintains and organizes all electronic files for the inspectors in appropriate software.
- Performs research on real estate records for new complaints to determine proper ownership and necessary data for investigation of complaints.
- Opens code enforcement complaint files and assists in preparation and mailing of code enforcement correspondence.
- Verifies that location is in the unincorporated jurisdiction of St. Charles County, or directs to appropriate agency.
- Determines when to transfer inquiries to other staff.
- Collects fees and issues receipts for all of the Community Development Department.
- Enters relevant data into building and code enforcement software and assures that all applicable review by various divisions and Departments within the County are completed and entered, then notifies customer of completion of permit process and fees.
- Schedules appropriate inspections and verifies eligibility for same.
- Forwards data to property owners and builders
- Prepares reports and files pertaining to inspections and the licensing of contractors.
- Prepares routine correspondence for department staff as needed.
- Maintains and files all necessary paperwork including reviewing for accuracy and completion.
- Revises departmental documentation as directed.
- Assists in obtaining historic data as requested by the customer or other agencies.
- Scans historic data for digital archive purposes.
- Works in the Emergency Operations Center during disasters as part of ESF- 17.
- Manages all incoming/outgoing mail and processes accordingly.
- Schedules and administers owner-occupant examinations for licensing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education
- A high school diploma or equivalent with additional training in clerical and customer service field or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
- Certifications
- A valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.
- Certification in FEMA IS – 100, IS – 200, IS – 700, IS – 800, and IS-2200 required within the first six months of employment (obtained online).
Be or become a commissioned notary public in the State of Missouri preferred.
- Job Experience
- One (1) year of clerical and customer service experience.
