Seafood Coordinator
Seafood Purchasing & Procurement (Primary Focus):
Forecast and purchase fresh and frozen seafood products from suppliers to align with projected sales demand.
Negotiate pricing, terms, quality specifications, and delivery schedules with vendors to achieve optimal cost, quality, and availability.
Monitor market trends, seasonal availability, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions in the seafood industry to make informed buying decisions.
Ensure all purchases comply with food safety standards, sustainability guidelines (e.g., MSC, ASC certifications where applicable), and company quality requirements.
Inventory Management:
Maintain optimal inventory levels through regular monitoring and inventory reconciliation to prevent overstocking, spoilage, or shortages.
Track product shelf life, freshness dates, and turnover rates; implement FIFO (First In, First Out) practices and coordinate product rotation.
Analyze inventory data to identify slow-moving items, forecast needs, and reduce shrink/waste.
Sales Order Execution:
Coordinate with sales and operations teams to fulfill customer orders accurately and on time.
Process and prioritize sales orders, allocate inventory, and arrange for picking, packing, and shipping.
Resolve any order discrepancies, shortages, or quality issues promptly in collaboration with relevant teams.
Provide support for order tracking, delivery scheduling, and customer communication as needed.
Additional Duties:
Collaborate with quality assurance, production, logistics and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations.
Prepare reports on purchasing performance, inventory metrics, cost savings, and supplier performance.
Stay updated on regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP) related to seafood handling and procurement.
Participate in supplier audits, evaluations, and relationship management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
2+ years of experience in seafood purchasing, procurement, buying, or supply chain coordination (experience in foodservice, retail, wholesale, or distribution preferred).
Strong understanding of seafood species, quality indicators, seasonality, sourcing regions, and market dynamics.
Proven ability to manage inventory and execute orders in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
Proficiency in inventory/ERP systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel for data analysis).
Knowledge of food safety and quality standards (HACCP, FDA regulations, etc.).
Preferred:
Experience with sustainable seafood sourcing and certifications.
Familiarity with perishable goods logistics and cold chain management.
