East Bay Charter Township History Intern
Broad Statement of Responsibilities:
The History Intern will work on various projects related to researching, documenting, preserving and sharing the history of East Bay Charter Township, and establish a framework for the preservation of the township's heritage.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research the Township’s history through primary and secondary sources, including archival records, local newspapers, photographs, and oral histories.
- Catalog, digitize, and organize historical documents, photographs, and artifacts to establish Township archives.
- Work with Traverse Area District Library East Bay Extension to upload the digitized materials into the established online archives
- Establish webpage and generate content on the Township’s website to share documented history connected to the online archives.
- Engage the local community in the Township’s history, including conducting documented interviews with residents.
- Assist coordinating calls to the public to bring forth any documents they have to be included in the archive.
- Guide the preservation and maintenance of any discovered historical materials, ensuring they are properly stored and protected for future generations.
- Provide general administrative tasks which support the historical documentation, including data entry, research, and correspondence.
- Assist in writing articles, blog posts, and social media content to promote Township history and engage the public in historical initiatives.
- Assist in preparing materials for the public sharing and engagement with the materials.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Current or recently graduated student pursuing undergraduate or graduate education in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Self-starter able to work independently.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively in team environment.
- Ability to accept guidance and follow instructions.
- Competency in various computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office and internet applications.
