Job Summary

The Process Engineer Summer Intern provides technical assistance and learning support within the Engineering Department while being responsible for a meaningful, defined engineering project aligned with business and manufacturing priorities. This internship is designed to expose current college students to real-world manufacturing and process engineering environments. Under the guidance of experienced engineers and leadership, the intern will support activities related to product design, production line support, process improvement, quality, and safety, culminating in a formal presentation of project outcomes to engineering and operations leadership.

This role emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration, and professional development while delivering tangible value to the organization.

Supervision Received

The intern works under close supervision and mentorship from the Director of Operations, Engineering Manager, and assigned engineering staff. Assignments are structured, reviewed regularly, and focused on achieving learning objectives as well as successful completion of the assigned project.

Essential Functions (Intern-Level)

  1. Complete a defined engineering or process improvement project with clear objectives, deliverables, and timelines, under the guidance of Engineering and Operations leadership.
  2. Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing project goals, methodology, results, and recommendations to Engineering and Operations stakeholders at the conclusion of the internship.
  3. Assist with the evaluation and documentation of new products and manufacturing processes under the direction of Process Engineers.
  4. Support manufacturing operations by collecting data, observing processes at point of use, and assisting with basic investigations related to process performance, scrap reduction, and cost improvement initiatives.
  5. Collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering team members to support troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
  6. Learn and assist with manufacturing processes by participating in team meetings, problem-solving activities, and improvement projects.
  7. Support engineering projects by preparing basic reports, presentations, and visual process documentation.
  8. Assist with testing activities such as performance evaluations, equipment trials, and data collection using established procedures.
  9. Provide limited support to Technical Support or cross-functional teams as assigned and under supervision.
  10. Assist with pilot system setup, operation support, and data collection when required.
  11. Support the design or modification of product components, fixtures, or tools using computer-aided design software (SolidWorks preferred), as appropriate to skill level.
  12. Perform other assigned duties related to engineering learning objectives and departmental needs.

Other Essential Functions

  1. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality in compliance with TMUS’s Attendance Policy and internship program expectations.
  2. Follow all TMUS environmental, health, and safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when required. Promptly report any work-related injuries or safety concerns to a supervisor.
  3. Conduct oneself in a professional manner and comply with company policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
  4. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the internship learning experience.

Internship Qualifications (Required / Suggested)

  • Current college student actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Chemical, or related field).
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the summer internship program.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency or coursework exposure to CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work collaboratively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.

This position is temporary and intended for educational and professional development purposes as part of the TMUS Summer Internship Program. The internship includes ownership of a meaningful project and a formal presentation as a core component of the experience.
