Environmental Field Intern – Candidate Pool
Ecological Land Services, Inc. (ELS) is building a pool of students and recent graduates interested in potential 2026 environmental field internships. These opportunities may become available depending on project workload and upcoming contracts and may include work related to fisheries support, environmental compliance monitoring, and biological field surveys. Applicants will be considered for openings as they arise throughout the year.
ELS is an environmental consulting firm serving the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Alaska, with our main office in Longview, Washington, and branch offices in Washougal, Sunnyside, Bremerton, and Bellingham. We specialize in land, water, and shoreline projects involving wetlands, streams, wildlife, habitat, and endangered, threatened, and sensitive species.
Ideal Candidates:
We are looking for students pursuing degrees in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field who are interested in hands-on environmental fieldwork.
Qualifications:
• Self-motivated with an enthusiastic approach to work
• Ability to work outdoors in rugged conditions for up to 10 hours per day
• Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. by hand or in a backpack
• Reliable transportation to an assigned office location (Longview, Washougal, Sunnyside, Bremerton, or Bellingham) or a nearby meeting location. Willingness to work flexible hours (up to 40 hours per week, with potential for overtime)
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow directions
• Willingness to travel and work out of town, including overnight stays for up to a week at a time
Typical Duties (if role opens):
• Fish salvage/relocation
• Data collection
• Assist with:
o Delineation of wetlands
o Mitigation site monitoring
o OHWM delineation
o Stream and wildlife surveys
Compensation and Benefits:
• A competitive compensation package: general range is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on experience.
• This position does not include benefits beyond those required by Washington State
o In accordance with WA State Sick Leave law, employees will accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
⁕ Sick leave becomes available after 90 days of employment.
⁕ Payout of any unused sick leave will be determined by management at the end of the assignment.
