Summer Employment: Campus Recreation Lifeguard
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provides a safe environment in the Aquatic Center at the RecPlex
- Proactively prevents emergencies by correcting dangerous behavior and by noticing hazards
- Responds quickly and appropriately to emergencies
- Able to perform water rescues per American Red Cross Lifeguarding/Deep Water r.24 standards
- Active scanning and attentiveness during shift
- Maintains a clean aquatic center
- Tests chemical levels (pH and Chlorine)
- Attends mandatory in-services once a month to practice and improve lifeguard skills
- Being responsible by showing up to any and all shifts
- Arrives on time and in correct uniform
Employment Information
- Compensation: $11.00/hr, max 20 hours per week, 9 hrs. average
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Lifeguard Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/Deep Water which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First-Aid or a comparable nationally recognized lifeguard certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in lifeguarding for public pools
- Experience in supervising youth ages 5-12 in an aquatic environment
- Experience as a Head Lifeguard
Experience Gained in this Role
- Communication-Students will learn how to be better verbal communicators by interacting with co-workers, patrons, and pro-staff members. Individuals in this position will improve their active listening skills by interacting with and assisting patrons.
- Teamwork-Students will gain knowledge about other cultures through interacting with members of the community. Additionally, students will need to work with co-workers to demonstrate efficient emergency response skills. This position will provide students with skills to help communicate with others to mitigate risk.
- Professionalism-Students demonstrate a positive personal and university brand. Students are present and prepared at all times.
