Role overview

At CarGurus, the Trust and Safety team’s mission is to ensure CarGurus is a safe, trusted, and transparent marketplace.  The Trust and Safety Intern plays a vital role in maintaining Marketplace Integrity through Policy Enforcement, Content Operations and Data Accuracy functions.

This intern will rotate across key operational areas within the Trust and Safety team, gaining hands-on exposure to content moderation, fraud prevention, case investigation, data integrity, and operational coverage. This role is ideally suited for a detail-oriented student with interest in trust and safety operations, marketplace compliance, and fraud prevention.

This is a full-time, paid, Summer 2026 intern position. Must be eligible to work 40 hours a week from June 2026 – August 2026. We are a hybrid environment and employees should anticipate working from our Boston, MA offices 60% of the time, or approximately 3 days per week. Only students currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program will be considered.

What you'll do

Marketplace Integrity:

  • Conduct analysis on UGC moderation and fraud prevention decision outcomes, turning data into insights that drive smarter, more consistent enforcement
  • Shape how CarGurus enforces trust at scale by contributing to Content Moderation Guideline and Policy updates
  • Review user-generated content and listings to identify policy violations and take action when suspicious activity is detected

Policy Violation Investigation & Case Management:

  • Investigate, evaluate, and resolve reports of policy violations
  • Gather information from multiple sources, including internal listing data, consumer reports and reviews, and dealer websites
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation throughout the lifecycle of cases
  • Provide regular case updates to internal stakeholders prior to resolution
  • Communicate with and advise account teams on remediation pathways

Data Accuracy Management & Lead Integrity:

  • Process change of ownership for dealer customers and perform functions tied to maintenance of dealer database accuracy across internal tools

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program; coursework or experience in business, operations, law, data, or a related field preferred

The displayed range represents the expected hourly rate for this position.

Where is the CarGurus office located and what are hybrid work expectations?
CarGurus’ office is located at 1001 Boylston St. in Boston, MA. We offer a flexible hybrid model with expectations for Gurus to come into the office approximately 3 days per week. Interns can choose their in-office days based on personal preference and manager guidance in order to maximize their collaboration time with their team.

Does CarGurus provide commuting benefits for interns?
We do not provide commuting benefits for interns at this time. Our office is easily accessible via the MBTA green line and Back Bay commuter rail station.
