As the producer of the Philadelphia Film Festival and creative force behind the Film Society Center, Film Society Bourse, and Film Society East, the Philadelphia Film Society (PFS) raises awareness of film as an important art form in Philadelphia and serves as a vital piece of the city’s arts and culture community.

The Film Society is seeking three summer interns to assist with summer programming and fall fest planning for 2026. Our summer programming and planning includes five free Community Screening events, our six outdoor Movies on the Block events, 3 monthly filmmaker showcases, and preparation for the fall festival. We have three part-time, hybrid internship positions with paid stipends in the area of Community and Education Programming and Events Management. Students who are enrolled in school can receive academic credit if school programs permit.
Internship Overview & Objectives:
The Summer Events Internship is an opportunity for young adults ages 18-24. In this 2.5 month internship, interns spend 2 weeks learning about the Philadelphia Film Society, through a series of immersive tasks, informational interviews, job shadowing, and attending PFS programming and meetings.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in festival preparation, community events and programming through recurring Community Screenings, Philly Film Showcase, pre-fest planning, and six Movies on the Block events. Working primarily with the Education and Community Department and Events Manager for PFS, interns will gain practice organizing and promoting events, communicating and meeting with partners/vendors, supporting volunteer management, data tracking, capturing event footage, emailing for outreach and inquiries, and managing day-to-day needs for Film Society programs. Students will leave with experiential knowledge of how film can be used to inspire, educate, challenge, and entertain while bringing together various communities in and around Philadelphia.
Qualifications:
Ideal interns will be extremely organized, personable, have experience working with diverse groups, have strong writing skills, have flexible schedules, be available evenings and weekends for events, have transportation to film society venues and off-site events, have knowledge of Google Drive, and experience with capturing footage.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Interns will work closely with the Education & Community Outreach Department, Events Manager and Film Society partners in planning events, building festival partnerships, maintaining relationships, recording meeting minutes, attending community programs, supporting facilitation and marketing of the Movies on the Block summer series, capturing program and event data, record team meeting minutes, manage volunteer communication and tracking, and more.
1. Education & Community Engagement Intern-
In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Education & Community Outreach Department and Film Society partners in planning and executing events, tracking data, maintaining relationships, facilitating and recording meeting minutes, attending community programs, and more. Traveling to event sites is necessary, and having a car is preferred.
2. Events & Marketing Intern-
In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Events & Marketing Intern will manage volunteers and work across departments to plan and help facilitate PFS events and community programs. Additionally, this intern will work with the Marketing Team to organize and develop content as needed and capture footage of all PFS events. Traveling to event sites is necessary, and having a car is preferred.
3. Festival Intern-
In addition to the general collective responsibilities, the Festival Operations Intern will work closely with the Events Manager to prepare and streamline Festival operations including our internal volunteer programming, Festival partnerships and sponsors, and event preparation including marketing asset project management. This intern will also assist the Events Manager on site and should feel comfortable contributing to creative projects verbally, writing first-draft copy for editing and communicating professionally while representing PFS with brand partners.
Compensation:
The full stipend is $900 split into three payments of $300.
Commitment:
Interns must be able to dedicate 12-15 hours/week between 11:00 AM and 5PM M-F plus events. Work time includes 4-hour in-person shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays plus evening and weekend events when applicable. Interested applicants who cannot meet the time commitments should not apply for this internship.
Schedule:
W F Work Time: hybrid 1-3 hours
Tu and Th Office Time: in-person 4 hours
Sat/Sunday events: 2-5 hours when applicable
