Position: Front Desk & Testing Assistant
Reports to: Program Coordinator, Disability Resources for Students

About the Role:

The Front Desk & Testing Assistant (DTA) plays a crucial role in the Disability Resources for Students (DRS) office, serving as a key point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Working at the Student Success front desk (MAT 107), the DTA helps manage office operations, administer testing accommodations, and provide outstanding customer service.

As the first point of contact, the DTA must maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and sensitivity in interactions, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Staff the main office front desk (MAT 107) during regular office hours.
  • Administer exams with accommodations in the DRS testing lab (MAT 354).
  • Be knowledgeable about Student Success programs and services to provide accurate information.
  • Perform clerical tasks, including answering a multi-line phone, scheduling appointments, filing, copying, and document processing.
  • Assist with projects, trainings, events, and social media management.
  • Maintain shared office spaces, including cubicles, and storage areas.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to other campus departments and programs.
  • Attend required trainings (FERPA, Title IX, Ethics, etc.) and complete additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must be UW Tacoma students in good academic standing.

Required Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong customer service skills with a welcoming and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and electronic).
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards in handling student information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to exercise good judgment.
  • Flexible and capable of multi-tasking in a dynamic office environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Previous experience in a confidential work environment.
  • Work-study eligibility.
  • Skills in desktop publishing (MS Publisher or similar).
  • Experience with web design, social media, or video content creation.
  • Prior customer service training or experience in an office setting.

Compensation & Schedule:

  • Pay Rate: Min Wage
  • Hours: 10-19 hours per week (based on availability and program needs)
  • Work schedule determined according to class schedule and office needs.
