International Orientation Assistant

Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS)

General Description:

This temporary position offers a motivated student the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience in providing quality services and support to new international students while developing event coordination skills, assessment tools, and marketing experience for on-campus programs.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Mason student (at least one semester) in good academic and judicial standing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to think creatively, take initiative, and be a self-starter in handling multiple projects
  • Interest in and/or previous experience working with international students
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Friendly and engaging personality to connect with ALL Mason students
  • Ability to lift and move supplies
     

Overview of Areas of Responsibility:

  • Assist with the preparation, logistics, and execution of Fall 2026 international student orientation programs (in-person) for new F-1 and J-1 undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Assist with virtual international student orientation components and welcome events, such as shopping trips.
  • Additional duties and general office assistance may also be required as needed.

Commitment:

  • Effective dates: Monday, August 4, 2025 – Friday, August 22, 2025; Saturday, August 29, 2026.
  • The International Orientation Assistant will work up to 20 hours during the weeks of August 3rd - August 14th and will work up to 40 hours the week of August 17th.

Compensation:

  • Undergraduate Students: $13.00 hourly
  • Graduate Students: $15.00 hourly

Educational Outcomes:

  • Overall understanding of new student events, programs, and services provided by OIPS
  • Overall understanding of program development, promotion, execution, and assessment
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff
