Loan Underwriter

Position Overview:

The Underwriter at Mobilization Funding works closely with the sales team and potential borrowers to gather financial and project documentation to assess creditworthiness and loan viability. Key responsibilities include reviewing loan applications, financial statements, bank statements, company due diligence, project cash flows, and executed construction contracts.

 

The Underwriter evaluates risk exposure and assists the sales team in presenting opportunities to the Loan Committee and plays a key role in the company’s data-driven growth strategy. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills are essential.

 

Roles and Responsibilities 

Underwriting & Analysis

  • Analyze borrower financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, debt schedule, WIP, etc.) and prepare Initial underwriting dashboards 
  • Prepare project cash flow models project based on client budgets and contract/vendor terms to recommend optimal loan structures.
  • Order and review background checks and company due diligence reports.
  • Develop credit opinions supported by the underwriting and provide recommendations for the Director of Underwriting. 
  • Utilize Salesforce, AI tools, and Excel to underwrite, document, and track loans.

 

Loan Process & Documentation

  • Key part of the loan opportunity presentations to Loan Committee for approval.
  • Generate and review loan documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all loan documentation.

 

Risk, Compliance & Portfolio Support

  • Ongoing risk rating updates and reporting on existing borrowers.
  • Adhere to lending policies and support continuous improvement and quality control initiatives. 
  • Review monthly bank statements for red flags and assist the servicing team post-close as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of commercial construction processes, supplier terms, and project-specific risks.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge or interest in the commercial construction processes, terms with suppliers and vendors, and risks specific to commercial construction projects.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Exceptional Excel modeling skills, comfortability with AI tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
