Job Type: Full time

Compensation: Salaries start at $38,000 annually. Our competitive benefits package includes fully covered health insurance, a 401(k) plan, generous paid time off, paid holidays, and an elective dental plan.

Overview

For entry-level employees, we will train in all aspects of publication typesetting. For more experienced typesetters, we will provide training in Scribe’s methodology. New employees learn the foundational elements of modern book production: applying XML, ebook development, typography and design, and the book publishing process. Then we will help cultivate your production skills so that you can design and typeset to the highest technical and aesthetic standards. The typesetter position offers opportunities to advance as you are able to take on more sophisticated projects, design covers and book interiors, and work with images.

The ability to use computers efficiently and the desire to develop technical skills are essential for this position. The main qualification is an aptitude for typography and book layout. A solid interest in book publishing is also necessary.

Compensation will increase as your skills advance and you gain greater responsibilities at Scribe.

Duties

- Scribing (applying structure to manuscripts and books)  
- Publication cleanup using computer-based tools  
- Typesetting  
- Book design  
- Book cover design and production

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree preferred  
- Strong attention to detail  
- A focused, highly organized, and independent personality  
- Clear and specific interest in book publishing  
- Solid computer skills (including familiarity with Adobe products and Microsoft Word)  
- Preference given to candidates who are knowledgeable in HTML  
- Preference given to candidates who are fluent in Spanish
