Summer Camp Lead Teacher
Position Title: Summer Camp Lead Teacher-Junior Explorers (Ages 3-6)
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
With more parents working full-time jobs, the availability of quality summer childcare is an essential service to the IDS community. Quality summer camp programs provide recreation, social opportunities, and enrichment activities for children who attend our school or who live in our community. The Junior Explorers Lead Teacher organizes, prepares, and leads a variety of activities throughout the daily camp schedule, including, theme-related events and social projects.
Essential Functions
- Prepare activities and participate in program planning, special events, field trips and meetings and evaluations.
- Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of the program.
- Interpret and carry out programs in accordance with IDS policies and procedures.
- Maintain positive interaction and communication between Junior Counselors, CITs, Directors, and Parents.
- Maintain supplies and equipment in good condition; report damages; create pre- and post-season inventory of supplies.
- Maintain a safe, orderly program area, report any damage and inspect facilities daily.
- Responsible for final inspection and cleaning of storage areas.
- Prep and execute daily lesson plans including clean up.
- Be responsive to the health, safety, and well-being of participants.
- Provide minor first aid to campers and report injuries to the Director of First Aid and Camp Director.
- Maintains daily logs and records for health and first aid; complete accident reports.
- Comply with IDS policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Prior experience with children.
- Must have or obtain valid, current CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Knowledge of teaching methods for organized games and free play activities for specific areas of expertise.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to anticipate and recognize potentially dangerous situations at outdoor and indoor facilities.
- Ability to recognize emergencies and to take necessary preventative action.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work outside with children during the summer months; withstand pollen and dust.
- Work inside assigned classrooms, and other areas of the School.
- Occasionally push, pull, and/or lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Hours: Up to but not exceeding 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
