Fire Resiliency Fellow at Siskiyou Land Trust

Location: Mount Shasta, California

Number of Positions Available: 3

Time Commitment: September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027

This is a full-time, 11-month, 1700-hour program from September 21, 2026 - August 13, 2027. Fellows in this position commit to a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, approximately 9AM - 5PM with occasional evening and weekend commitments based on project needs. 170-340 of these hours are dedicated to professional development. 

**Please note: Due to the full-time commitment of the Fellowship, students enrolled in undergraduate courses between Sep 21, 2026 - Aug 13, 2027 will not be eligible to participate in the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship.

About the California Climate Action Corps Fellowship

The California Climate Action Corps has over 400 positions available across California for the 2026-27 CCAC Fellowship. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders. These are paid, full-time fellowships—similar to internships—with 170-340 dedicated hours for professional development and training, providing hands-on experience in the climate field.

CCAC Fellows are matched with organizations across California to mobilize communities to take direct climate action and lead projects focused on wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and organic waste diversion.

Description of Duties

Siskiyou Land Trust (SLT) is seeking Fire Resiliency Fellows to support land conservation stewardship projects. Priority climate initiatives include a 320-acre Forest Health Project, a 600-acre Wildfire Resiliency Demonstration Project, and a community-centered Meadow Restoration Project, all located in Mt. Shasta City. Together, these projects advance wildfire resilience, restore native ecosystems, and expand vibrant green spaces through hands-on stewardship and community education. Both wildfire resilience and restoration activities are paired with youth engagement, volunteer stewardship events, and educational workshops—creating both ecological and community impact. Fellows serve at the intersection of wildfire resiliency, urban greening, and climate education—mobilizing volunteers, implementing restoration projects, and helping cultivate a culture of stewardship across Siskiyou County. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit and mobilize community volunteers to implement brush removal, fuel reduction, and native tree and pollinator plant installations across forest and meadow sites
  • Lead volunteer-driven land stewardship events, including planting native species, fire-prone invasive species removal, orchard and greenway expansion, and restoration projects
  • Coordinate and lead climate and environmental education initiatives—including wildfire resiliency education and forest management
  • Lead and support workshops and hands-on restoration projects—engaging youth and community members in meaningful stewardship experiences with local experts
  • Operate hand tools and power tools—including brush-cutting tools and chainsaws with training—to implement on-the-ground fuel reduction and restoration projects
  • Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact

Minimum Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Live in California by August 14, 2026
  • Be at least 18 years of age by August 14, 2026
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, and experience in community outreach, diverse outdoor conditions (rain, wind, heat, steep or uneven terrain), engaging with K-12 students, climate and environmental education, event coordination & planning, GIS/mapping, habitat restoration, home hardening/defensible space, landscape management, native plant management, project management, public speaking/facilitation, traditional ecological knowledge, tree planting/care, and volunteer management & engagement. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Other valuable contributions include:

  • An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service
  • Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change
  • Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities
  • Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills

About Siskiyou Land Trust

Siskiyou Land Trust (SLT) is a community-based non-profit organization that strives to protect open space and farmlands, forests and wetlands, natural resources, scenic viewsheds, and wildlife habitat throughout Siskiyou County. SLT was founded in 1993 and, over the past 30 years, has protected over 50,000 acres through direct land ownership and conservation easements. Stewardship of these lands includes forest health and wildfire resiliency, community garden and edible greenway programs, and urban meadow restoration.
