Shop Manager
Location: Los Altos, CA
Reports To: Shop Owner
Hours: Full-time, 30 to 40 hours per week. Includes weekends and holidays.
Compensation: $25 to $29 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits below.

About the Role
The Shop Manager owns the day to day operations of our Los Altos location and serves as the lead staff person on the floor. You are the main point of contact for your team, the keeper of our customer experience, and the person who makes sure the shop runs smoothly, looks beautiful, and hits its numbers. This role is hands on. You will be helping customers, refilling jars, training associates, and managing systems, often in the same shift.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Act as the lead manager and primary point of contact for shop staff.
- Hire, train, and develop Shop Associates.
- Build the staff schedule based on availability, traffic patterns, and the labor budget.
- Set clear expectations, give regular feedback, and coach the team to grow.
- Lead by example and foster a positive, inclusive, team oriented culture.
Customer Experience
- Deliver exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and through digital channels.
- Educate customers on low waste principles and product specifics.
- Resolve escalated customer issues with patience and professionalism.
- Help develop community pop ups, collaborations, and in shop events.
Operations and Inventory
- Manage opening and closing procedures, including registers and cash handling.
- Oversee inventory: receiving, unboxing, stocking, transfers, and loss prevention.
- Conduct periodic inventory counts and reconcile variances.
- Fulfill online orders accurately and on time.
- Manage shop upkeep, cleaning, and routine maintenance.
- Maintain product displays and merchandising to brand standards.
Systems and Communication
- Manage staff wide to do lists, tasks, and communication updates.
- Enforce systems, policies, and productivity standards.
- Work closely with the owner and other managers to implement and improve systems.
- Assist in capturing photos and videos for social media content.
- Support promotional deals and discounts.
Sales and Performance
- Drive store sales and partner with the owner on monthly and quarterly targets.
- Monitor key indicators such as average ticket and units per transaction.
- Identify opportunities to grow sales through events, clienteling, and product education.

Qualifications
- 2 or more years of retail experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proficiency with POS systems, inventory software, and basic sales reporting.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma required. Some college preferred but not required.
Physical Demands
This position involves standing for the large majority of shifts. The role also involves sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and the ability to lift, carry, and pour liquids comfortably up to 50 lbs.

Supervision
This position is supervised by Ethos' Shop Owner and works closely with other managers, while collaborating with all other team members.
