Pathologists' Assistant
Job Summary
A Pathologists’ Assistant works closely with pathologists to support patient diagnoses by handling and examining surgical and biopsy specimens. They’re responsible for grossing specimens (measuring, describing, and dissecting tissue), making sure everything is properly labeled and documented, and helping keep the lab running smoothly and in compliance.
They’re essentially the bridge between the OR and the pathology lab, allowing pathologists to focus on the final diagnosis.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Clinical Pathology required or Master's Degree Pathologists' Assistant preferred (no exceptions)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of human anatomy, tumor staging guidelines and medical terminology.
- Extensive knowledge of how to approach wide variety of surgical specimens.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills in person, over the telephone, via e-mail, and other communication devices.
- Knowledge of basic human pathology.
- Must be able to lift approximately 20 pounds.
